What do we do to stop rampant overpopulation?

Why is human overpopulation never discussed as an issues, why can we not stabilize our numbers like all other animals do? why are sharks not overpopulating the oceans but we are growing at an expontial rate?

by not letting people reproduce without authorization...like you have to have a certain IQ and take a parenting class...

I think to stop rampant over population as you have in the developing countries, the status of women have to be changed.Women have to be educated,they have to earn and have control of their incomes and have independent social status.Even today, in many countries like India a woman's status depends on whose wife she is and how many sons (not daughters) she has.I think this is one of the main causes of over population.

Maybe we are not growing demographically lik some shark.  It would be just as easy to say we are growing like a school of bonita or other abounding fish.  And with that one needs the understand that we need a way of equalizing the balance.

Nature has ways of correcting overpopulation. Natural disasters. Disease. Famine. War. Looks like we may be due a big correction.

Actually, sharks will overpopulate an area of ocean and die as a result.

The problem is that "overpopulation" statistics used in most research are pre-HIV.

There are countries in Subsaharan Africa with HIV infection rates of 80% and higher.

As awful as it is, each animal has its own way of keeping its population low. (well, excluding those that DO breed themselves out of food and must move or die.)

Death is how nature handles overpopulation with other animals.  If there isn't enough food to sustain an animal population, the population decreases through death.

As humans, we're too "smart" to just let other people die.  We invent new ways to keep people alive longer or where there is scarcity of food.

Short of adopting a policy where we kill off (either actively or passively, as animals do) each other... the only way to control our population is to intelligently decide to limit reproduction.

I don't know where you live, but here in the US, we consider telling someone that they can't reproduce is a horrendous thought.  Force people to become sterilized?  Jail people for having children?  Perish the thought.
