  1. Bats are very dirty and diseased creatures.

I don't think an exterminator would be a good idea, or even helpful. I suggest looking in your phone book for some sort of animal control or something.

All I can say is to hury.

  2. Wait until dusk to see where they fly out from. Should be easy to find if there is 1000 of the little suckers. After they all leave, fix/plug the hole.

We had bats in our wall, they got in through a relatively tiny hole under the window, and that's how I got them to stay out. There was only about thirty though, I counted them as they flew out.

  3. Not sure what you mean by rage?  Also, bats do not really carry diseases..only 2 really that can be transferred to humans..rabies which is transmitted by a bite that breaks the skin (if they are in your roof they cannot get to you to bite, and will only bite if handled or threatened) or from something called histoplasmosis from their droppings (not common). Also, less than 1% of all bats carry rabies.   Bats are actuallly VERY important to the ecosystem as pest control against mosquitos that may carry encephalitis, malaria, or west nile virus,  and as pollinators.  They save farmers millions of dollars a year by NOT having to spray poisonous or harmful chemical pesticides on crops.  Bats also pollinate a lot of the fruits, and vegetables we eat.  The worst thing you can do is kill these bats..it also may be illegal as bat populations are in decline worldwide specifically because people kill them for no reason except that they are misunderstood. If these are endangered species it would be an even bigger fine and jail time you would face by killing them.  There are HUMANE ways to remove bats from your home without harming you or them!!  Please read below for how to get them out of your house without hurting them:

  4. Two possibilities. Get a case or so of mothballs and open them. Spread them around the attic. Alternatively, leave a radio on up there. Once they're out, seal up the holes they have been using to enter.

You could also live with them. There would be very few annoying insects around your house.

  5. Where do you live?  Your local health department might be able to help.

You need to wait until the bats have left, then seal up ALL the cracks around chimneys and windows and vents, even the real small ones.
