What do we find in all the poetry books

Words

Words take us where we've never been,

They take is there in style.

A writer spins a tale of love,

And murder for awhile.

Intrigue can be so very good,

Though it can be quite harsh.

To kill him in the mansion loft,

Or out upon the marsh.

To hit him with a pipe of lead,

Or stab him with a knife,

The thing to use just matters not,

Just rob him of his life.

Or sit him in the living room,

Seduce him all the day.

To make him think it's heaven here,

So he will want to stay.

A writers word will form a plot,

Some thick and some are thin.

They make a world of make-believe,

That we want to join in.

So writers, write your words so well,

And put them in a book.

For when I want to visit there,

That is where I will look.

  1. oh Dondi, rhymer of the year,

    nay, of millenium!

thy words as clear and as precise

    as numbers in a sum!

  2. Makes me want to read something, very well said.

  3. Very nice...makes me want to run out and buy a book.  Oh, wait, I already did that.  Wonderfully melodic as always :)

  4. Bravo!!!  Beautifully done.

  5. What can I possibly say to what you've written? How can I add anything...can't.

    You have answered all. Eloquently.

  6. A picture book?

  7. the second line needs to say "they take us there in style" not "they take is there in style", but otherwise I like it a lot... very good

  8. that's it right der that's what it is, words precariously written by the writer

  9. What do we find...wonders!  (My husband knows better than to take me into a book store...new or used.)

  10. Funny you should ask that question. I just realized this weekend that other than The Odyssey and The Divine Comedy I don't own any poetry books. I will soon, however, own three, and your last stanza is why, except as if I was saying it from me to all of you.

I'm hoping that you're in it Marvin. (I'm still cracking up about that.)

  11. You said it well!!

Never did make it to B&N yesterday...

  12. As they say 'Simple but nice'............not 'simple' in the sense my mother used it with me 'You're simple in the head!' but 'simple' in the sense of unsophisticated, clear and with no hidden depths to puzzle my pretty little head!

(shut up greenthing - I know I've got lots of punctuation...and I don't think I have any misspellings, thank you....greenthing is my invented word (it's just told me that I've spelled 'word' wrong....do you think old eraser-head is having a nervous breakdown?)

Oops, sorry Dondi, I got side-tracked.  Where was I?  Oh, yes...

I don't read who-dun-its....I get too impatient, go to the end find out who the murderer is and then give up.

  13. I like it!

Poetry is alive when people give it the breath and wings to soar!

  14. The story teller of story tellers, is who you are, and there is nothing simple about it. Kudos

  15. Haven't read a murder mystery in quite a while. I think I'll change my reading habits for a short time. Love your poem, as I always do, but I've decided not to accept that invitation to lunch until you start writing love stories again.
