such studies are largely speculative and controversial in the circles who study them, what is happening now is limited by what we understand of processes on Earth and information assimilation by either photographs or probes.

According to my knowledge, which is certainly not extensive, it all started with the Big Bang--I have read that scientifically, this has been well established.  And the universe continues to expand.  There are changes ongoing, like supernovas, births of new stars, certain celestial events.

Scientifically, we do not know what started the Big Bang, which was a huge even beyond our intellectual capacity to grasp.

Those who believe the Bible (including me) see God as the cause.
