  1. Simply, drivers run the hardware to make it work. If you didn't have drivers everything just becomes an expensive paperweight.

All new computers come with the drivers preloaded for the hardware installed.

  2. in simple terms drivers help the os read the hardware. the newer the drivers the more sufficiently the hardware will run

  3. So that the operating system can communicate with the hardware.

  4. In simple terms the drivers are the set of instructions that the operating system reads on how to make the hardware work.

Both hardware and software are becoming more and more complex, so drivers are continually updated to reflect any changes.

When you buy a new computer, it will already have all the common drivers installed, but if you add new hardware the drivers may not be on the list, hence the installation disk that comes with most hardware.

If you buy a new printer you will get a disk, but generally the drivers will already be on your computer.

Now that most motherboards have on-board graphics and audio the drivers are all built in.

If you have to do a fresh install of your operating system on an old computer you may find that you need to reinstall the drivers for your audio and graphic cards.  This often causes problems because the owner has no idea what is actually installed.

What you should do as soon as you get your computer is install Belarc advisor, free from belarc.com and it will build you a complete profile of your computer, including details of all your software licences, and will show things like MS security hotfixes that haven't been installed.

  5. If you don't have drivers then how on earth the hardware is going to comunicate with the computer?
