What do we need to move/tour US/ CANADA?

me and my best mate were thinking of traveling USA and Canada after high school more likely after university. we are both in very high classes and im thinking about working with animals and shes thinking about being a surgeon.. i think.

but we know our trip would be atleast 2 years more liekly 3-4 years. cos we just wanna go so many places.

we'd be like keen to work

but we do wanna live in just one place eventually. but were not sure where so thats why we need/want to travel

so yeah just wanted to know if we'd need to apply for permantent redesiancy or a green card or something else

by the way both of us are born and live in New Zealand
