  1. Good question.

I would like to consign them to the history books!

How on earth can someone like Prince Charles and his (long term mistress (now his wife) ever be King.

    A republic please!!!!!!!!!

  2. For having a bleeding good time.

  3. According to reseach conducted by the Canadian Monarchist Society the Queen, via the return from the investment of the Crown Estate which she surrendered upon assuming her reign, pays back to everyone several times more than those people pay in.

Via this win-win arrangement she fulfills the essence of her coronation oath which is to maintain the people.

  4. For the P.R. they make for the country.

  5. We don`t.  In practise the Royal Family don`t cost the taxpayer a penny.  The revenue from the Crown Estates is taxed and a nett result of this is that the Treasury receives about £100 million pounds annually.  They receive about £36 million from the Civil List- do the maths!

  6. To sit around all day.

  7. They are a relic of the past. I don't particularly like them but most people seem to, so whatever

  8. So that they can live in opulence as a relic of the no-longer necessary means of a monarchy. The royalty in England really don't so anything. They're just..... there.

  9. I don't pay the royal family anything.  I am an American, and I would rather go to France.

  10. If you're talking about the British royal family ,then it may surprise you that they have money of their own.The royal family gets foreign investment to come into the country to provide not only income but much needed jobs.

Back in the early 1800's when Queen Victoria came to the British Throne, the royal family was looked down upon by the aristocracy for almost being paupers.

It was Victoria who tightened up the purse strings and invested what little money they had which has grown to the billions in more than 170 years.

The Prince of Wales collects rents from all homes and businesses on Wales too. But keep in mind that Her Majesty also  has to submit an annual budget which is approved by Parliament to show where the money goes.

Not only that, but the royal family pays almost double the tax rate than the commoners do.

  11. The Queen herself receives €12 million annually, and the British royal family are on salaries as well, for carrying out royal duties and representing the Queen at different social events and royal engagements throughout the year.

Buckingham Palace accounts reveal that the Queen and the Royal Family cost each British taxpayer 60p per year (£35m a year, which, split between every British man, woman and child). What does 60p cover?

Well 0.6p goes directly to Prince Philip, about £ 0.3million. It also upholsters Buckingham Palace, heats Windsor Castle, buys stationery - though the Queen is on email - pays staff salaries, entertains dignitaries and fuels the royal trains, planes and automobiles.

The British monarch receives civil payments in return for giving up some of their claims to certain royal properties and crown land. In the United Kingdom and during the British Empire, the hereditary revenues of Crown lands were a feature until the start of the reign of George III when the Crown Estate was surrendered to the Parliament of Great Britain in return for a fixed civil list payment.

Note: Every succeeding Sovereign has renewed the arrangement made between George III and Parliament and the practice has long been reckoned among those constitutional conventions which it would be very hard to end.

  12. To bring the tourists in to London. The Japanese & Americans seem to love 'em.

  13. To act as a permanent figurehead for the country.

    PM's come and go...

To be honest - i think i'd rather trust the Royal family to run the country than some over-ambitious politicians who will say anything to get the masses on their side, and then fall back into obscurity when they s***w the country up.
