  1. call the police and run out the back door to a neighbors house. Never try to confront them...you have no clue what mental or physical state they may be in.

  2. call the police,go out back door or get large thing to beat the c**p out of them.

  3. If they are not in the house yet, just trying to, flip on some lights, usually that is enough to spook most burglars away.  Then call the cops and hide in a locked room until the cops come if you can't safely get outside and away to a neighbors place.

I have motion lights on the outside of my house and one inside the house, I also have a lamp on a timer and always keep a radio on, whether I'm home or not.  This may not be the most environmentally friendly thing to do, but it gives the illusion that someone is home to the random passerby.

  4. call the police right away and hide... the robber might have a gun so be careful

  5. If you are trained to use a firearm in this kind of a situation, then that is an option.  The emphasis is on the word TRAINED.  Having a firearm is bad if you do not have appropriate training.  This applies to anything you use as a weapon........you do not want to find out the hard way that you are ineffective at defending yourself.

If you live in a neighborhood, turn on as many lights as you can, call 911, get outside (don't forget a window is a way out!), and make a bunch of noise.  Run next door and pound on that door like crazy.

Most people that break into property are opportunists and are not looking for a confrontation.  They are cowards and will run quicky if they know you can hear them.

Keep your neighbors in the loop and keep a cell phone on the night stand.   If they know why someone is pounding on their door or calling them at 3 AM,  a decent neighbor will get there quickly.

The point is waiting in some corner of your house with the lights off creates the kind of situation where you and the burgular may end up in the same room.........not ideal.

Be proactive, make an escape plan just like you would if a fire were to occur in your home.

Finally, if you are in an area where this is common........move.

Good luck and sorry that you have to worry about this.  I wouldn't be able to sleep!

  6. Shotgun.

  7. Hide in a room you can lock and call the police

  8. Mostly all of the above, provided one or another of them is an option.

The main thing is to keep your wits about you, stay calm, and examine your options.

Call for help if you're able, cops, neighbors, anyone.  The closer the better.  Exit the premises if you're able.

If they're still outdoors trying to get in, lock the inside doors between their entry point and the safest place in the house you've wisely considered previously.

Pick up a weapon you've wisely pondered previously, prepared yourself to use.

Go hide and wait for help to arrive, or for the burglar to kick down the door looking for you.

If the burglar arrives before help, and if you succeed in disabling him, call an ambulance, then call the police again and explain what's happened.

  9. you need to get a gun and take yourself down to the shooting range and practice, girl i wish someone will break into my house,i will be layin on the floor with bazooka with a scope on it waiting for sh**t to pop off.i wish someone would rob this address.

  10. Make sure the person don't see you , knock that person out and then call the police. You can also yield for help.      get some training on how to fight back.

  11. call the cops asap

hide & be quiet cuz they might have a gun or something

if they get to you & try to hurt you (unarmed), kick/punch them hard as you can

    why are you asking this?

  12. Load your gun and watch them run.

  13. I recommend that you buy pepper spray if it is legal in your jurisdiction. In most cases if you spray an aggressor with pepper spray that will slow him down long  enough to permit you to escape.

Several of the responders suggested that you get a gun. I do not recommend that because there are a large number of despicable attorneys who specialize in making people who shoot a criminal in self defense look like the aggressor and win large judgments against the victims who use guns to defend themselves.

Personally I recommend that you avoid making those despicable attorneys rich and yourself poor.

  14. Unless you are confident that you can confront the robber and hold him for the coppers and call them, you should just call the cops and let them decide how to deal with him.
