with everyone whingeing about how cr*p the country is, what are the things you can say you would miss about this land if you were to leave?

mine: real ale in a country pub, on one of those rare bright summer's days.

Well as well as living in Wales and Welsh culture, to me, the UK means:

a cup of tea

a pint of beer

Pubs

Cricket

Politeness

The BBC

Bank Holidays

Rain

Moaning about the weather

Day at the seaside

Queen's speech on Christmas Day

Council Houses

Chips

Oxford

Cambridge

Beautiful countryside, mountains, hills, fields, lakes etc

History - stonehenge, ancient barrows, castles

Little old Medieval churches

Shakespeare

Jane Austen

The Bronte Sisters

Charles Dickens

God Save the Queen

Trooping the colour

Battle of Britain

Edward Elgar and the Pomp and Circumstance Marches

I can answer this one from experience, i did leave the country about six years ago to live in Egypt.

The things i missed most =

The smell of fresh cut grass.

The wonderful green of our country, & all the lovely flowers.

Real baked beans & cream crackers.

The luxury even the poor live in, compared to the third world countries.

I missed England so much = i came home, lol.

The expectation that anyone you speak to will have visited at least one other country, know a few phrases in that language, will have read at least one book in the last six months, will know the difference between reality and TV, will tolerate people with tattooes and piercings with a patient smile, and will quickly admit that Simon Cowell should be castrated.
