  1. That he inspired and keep an entire nation together at the height of WWII - when so many other countries fell to Hitler's armies.

He was more than a politican - he was a visionary, everyone's uncle and a statesman - something little understood in our times.

  2. Well, he was a war correspondent during the Boer War. Did you know that there were two Winston Churchill. One became Prime Minister of England and the other was an American novelist. The only difference in their names was their middle initial. . They met in Boston in 1909 after corresponding with each other and exchanged mail mistakenly delivered to the wrong Winston Churchill. That's when they decide to add their middle initials to any books they had published to stop any confusion as to which Wiston Churchill it was. That why he started to go by Winston S. Churchill

  3. When the chips were down, when his back was to the wall and there was no hope in sight...

"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many long months of toil and struggle.

"You ask what is our policy. I will say, it is to wage war with all our might, with all the strength that God can give us, to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime.

"You ask what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terror. Victory however long and hard the road may be. For without victory there is no survival."

"Centuries ago words were written to be a call and a spur to the faithful servants of Truth and Justice: 'Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar. As the will of God is in Heaven, even so let it be"

"We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. (...) We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing-grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!"

"This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

  4. the thing I most admired about Sir Winston Churchill was his willingness to stand by what he believed in. He was no fair weather politician or beaurocrat. If he believe he was right about something, he would do all in his power to see that what he believed in was brought to fruition. At his best, this meant defying the seemingly invincible German war machine and inspiring an entire nation to continue to fight. At his worst, this meant backing the disasterous expedition at Gallipoli.  But he was willing to pay the price for being wrong, and even for being right. He spent the better part of a decade out of the power loop for his anti-appeasement stance towards fascism in Europe, and ultimately was vindicated for that. And of course, he had a razor sharp wit, which cut many a distractor. One of my favorites was the woman who told him "Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison." His response " Maam, if you were my wife I would drink it". Truly the man symbolized the British Empire, at its best and worst.

  5. The ability to inspire others..

This is the best gift a leader can have.. If you can inspire you will always have a great team

  6. I admire him for recognizing n**i Germany as a threat long before WW2 (he saw Germany as a threat in the 30s).

However, he was also seen as a meglomaniac and an alcoholic too.

Still, this guy was an excellent leader, charismatic, and practiced good statesmanship.  We need someone like him in the White House right now...someone who's not afraid to tackle terrorism head-on.

  7. His perseverance and ability to carry a nation right along with him.

Without him - God help us.

  8. His mother was of american idian blood. his mother gave birth to him.in a hat closet while she was attending a function, his mother invented the mahattan cocktail..he atended eaton college, he was a war correspondent in the boer war in africa. he had his BLACK DOG(anxiety spells) he allowed him self 15 cigars a day.. he was a better artist than he was a politicain even though he had great popluraity and was patriotic. he made a lot of mistakes during his political life ,he never loved any one else than his darling clementine his wife.his best quote was to mary astor ..when mary astor you sir are drunk .and he repleied and tommorro i will be sober but you will still be ugly...

  9. As a young man,he was a "medal seeker" willing to take that extra  step to do something heroic. As he got older and entered politics,he wasn't afraid to stand for what he beleived in.

  10. Not really admire, but in the 1920s he gasses the Kurds from the sky using the RAF (sound familiar? Saddam didn't even think of it himself). Also may have refered to them as "Sand *******" while ordering the gassing...

In short, he was a right colonial racist b*****d.

  11. His great speeches, at a time the world needed them the most....  ".....this was their finest hour"  ".....the dark abyss of a new dark age"  "...it is perhaps the beginning of the end".....

  12. For a history class we had to choose our own topics to write a 2500 to 3000 word essay. I chose to debate on whether or not Winston Churchill was writing for pure historical knowledge or just as a writer.

It was really quite interesting and his personal writings on the first and second world war, though not easy to read gives out a fascinating account and I enjoyed the fact that he says his writings is to pass onto later generations so that they did not make the same mistakes as 'he' did.

He had a 'bull dog' spirit according to sources and I admire the fact that he went through with England as much as he did, suffering from depression. "The Black Dog" according to him.
