  1. I think it's a great idea to have a vehicle that will run on electric power exclusively but it may take a few years to perfect the system and bring the cost down.  Right now the range for the battery is only around 40 miles before recharging (10 hrs for a full charge) with a small gasoline engine that charges the battery to extend the range. The unannounced price looks to be at least $50,000 or more so it may be more of a novelty than a practical alternative.

  2. I think it's fantastic and I can't wait till it comes out.

From what I've read it seems like it's not only going to be efficient, but it will be a huge step forward for automobiles in general. Electric drive is very quiet, very reliable, and very convenient seeing as you can essentially fuel up right at home. Electric cars also have very good performance.

What I hate about vehicles like the Prius is they are one step forward, three steps back. Yes they are very efficient which is great, but they are also small, have cheap interiors, very poor performance, and poor ride and handling. The Volt isn't like that. It will be a great car all around.

  3. Here is what I found that should prompt concern with the Chevrolet Volt:

    (1) The Chevrolet line overwhelming dominates Consumer Reports' 2008 list of Used Cars to Avoid.

    (2) General Motors overwhelming dominates Consumer Reports' 2008 list of the Worst of the Worst.

    (3) The 5-year Reliability Percentrank average for  the Chevrolet line is .32, on a scale of 0.00 to 1.00. For reference, General Motors' overall average is .31, Honda's overall average is .84, and Toyota's overall average is .89.

    (4) General Motors dominates AutoOnInfo.net's list of the Worst Autmobiles of 2008.

    (5) General Motors dominates AutoOnInfo.net's 2008 list of Automobiles with Worst Transmission Reliability.

    (6) AutoOnInfo.net's detailed reliability and durability studies suggest that a typical 3-year-old Chevrolet is as troublesome to own as a typical 26-year-old Honda and a typical 19-year-old Toyota.

    (7) AutoOnInfo.net's detailed valuation studies suggest that a typical GM product is overpriced by 100% (or should be priced at about half of what they are), based on the accelerated deterioration of its products within the first 3 years. (It may be that they should sell for much less if dilapidation over a longer time period is considered.)
