Hello people!!

If the earth got swallowed up by a blackhole, where would we end up?? Would we be transported into another dimension,or to a parallel universe, not even knowing that we were somewhere else??

I was just wondering, what do ye think is on the other side of a black hole?? Or what's inside it?? And why do you think this??

  1. Theoretically, it would be totally annihilated by gravitational forces well before it reached the event horizon. As you get nearer to the event horizon, the gravitational force increases exponentially. You would reach a point where the gravitational force just a few inches closer to the event horizon would be so much greater that you would be stretched like spaghetti.

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hole

This has a lot of information on black holes.  The bottom line is that there is no other side.  If we got swallowed up by a blackhole the gravity is so large that we would eventually all be compressed into a singularity at the event horizon.

  3. although the existance of black holes is verry likely no one knows for sure, its a geological guess, and since no one really knows if it exists for sure we can't say where we would end up if we got swalloed up by a black hole, maybe it swallows things up like a tornado and has so much force that throws the shredded pieces into a completley different galaxy and just lays there. hmmmmmmm

  4. Unless the Earth fell straight in, it would fall into orbit around the black hole.  If this orbit took it close enough to the black hole, it would get ripped to shreds by tidal forces.  That is, the part of the planet that is closer would experience more gravity and the part further away would experience less- this would tend to stretch it out.

Once broken up, the orbiting mess of the Earth would whirl around the black hole in a very fast orbit.  Some of the stuff would collide with itself, causing it to heat up.  As it heated up and released energy, it would fall a bit closer to the black hole, and spin even faster.  Eventually, the entire mass of the Earth would be a white-hot (actually "x-ray hot" )blur of material rapidly whirling around the hole, producing searing x-rays, weird magnetic effects, and gravity waves.

Slowly, this glowing stuff would bleed off its energy and trickle into the black hole.  There it would be lost to the rest of the universe forever.

If, by some weird technology, you could manage to survive the whirling white-hot vortex, you would actually never see the "center" of the black hole.  What would happen would be that time in the rest of the universe would appear to speed up as you got closer and closer to the "event horizon" of the black hole (the "edge" of the hole) and, at the very last moment, all of future history would whiz by in a searing blip.

Physicist Stephen Hawking predicted that black holes actually do not last forever- they slowly (really, really, slowly) "evaporate" away.  So, at the edge of a black hole, you'd experience the entire future universe moving by in an instant and, with it, the black hole itself evaporating.  By the time you entered it, it would be gone!
