I was reading something the other day about people who deck their houses out in flyers gear and it got me thinking. I consider myself a diehard fan, i watch and record every game and keep up and talk about news and notes about the team daily with my family, yet I don't have a jersey that fits or any memorabilia and I've only seen 9 games live in my life? So the question is really do you believe one has to be devoted to understanding and apperiacting the team and the game, or have a completly warped sense of the game to be a true fan.

  1. all it takes to be a real fan is to never be a bandwagonner, watch as many games as you can, brag about your team,  support your team through good and bad, and to love the hockey, as well as the other $hitty sport you are a fan of. You dont have to be good at the game, you dont need to understand it well, you dont need to watch it all the time. All you need is love, and you know that you have a true love for a sport when you get that feeling of excitment every single time you see a puck dropped, a big hit given, a sweet move pulled, and goal scored. without  love and enjoyment towards the game, you are not a fan, and never will be. Instead you are just a wussy wannabe who has no true appretiation for the best sport in the world which is hockey. You are not a true sports fan if you do no love hockey.

  2. A passion for the game and your team. To be able to show you're a fan with memorabilia is great if you can afford too. Because you like the team because somebody is cute is ridiculous, like I see here so much.

Support is key, for example watching/going to all the games you can so you learn about your team and can honestly speak of what is happening, I think that is key!

True that JEFF, thats whats wrong here.

  3. The most important thing is if you think you are a fan, then you are a fan. I wouldn't care what other people think.

  4. You don't have to go out and buy merchandise or wear jerseys to be a real fan just support the team whether they are winning or losing. Some of the worst bandwagon fans run out and buy all the teams stuff when they play well thats why sporting goods places run out of "Eastern Conference Champions" shirts and so on.

  5. If you don't know who the golden jet is..You're not a true fan.

  6. I think a real fan is someone who's life pretty much revoloves around their team. You dont need memorabilia to say "Oh im a real fan cause i got a jersey" some of those people are just wannabes. If you know whats going on with your team and do watch it i consider you a real fan!

  7. i think a true fane is someone who knows the game and there team some one who cheers there team on and admits when they made a bad play or something should have been called aginst them someone who isnt a homer and think every call should be going there teams way and i cant tell you from experieance what a true fane is not a true fan is not the kid that was sitting 2 seat down from me at the joe last night saying if we can win just go mess  someone up when robert went after fronzen saying hey that hockey or yelling at the girl in front of me say hey b**ch sit the F**k down that not a real fan that a puck and i might say he got trated like a punk after the game but that another story

  8. You have to support your team through good and bad, don't go supporting other teams just because your team is having a bad year. That is basically all it takes to be a real fan. When I see a house decked out I always kinda wonder if it is a real fan. I mean unless the team is suffering through a rough time I figure they are likely just doing it to look like a fan, and if it is in or near the city it means nothing to me.

  9. a true fan would never under any circumstance curse and/or disrespect there team, thats the rule ive always gone by

  10. 4 blades,  a grate, an Electric Motor and plug

  11. You need to know  ALOT of stuff and be able to answer ALOT of questions....but as for decarations that should be your choice!

  12. Love your team, know who they are, and what is going on with the team, enjoy their games.

I was pretty aloof about not having jerseys, but the kids bought me one for mothers day.....

  13. its not about the number of memorabilia you have, its the dedication to your team.

i say you have to be devoted to the game

  14. i consider myself a diehard fan of my team 2. im the same way, i keep up on everything about my team. & to tell you the truth i honestly just bought a jersey like a week ago, like i've always wanted one but yahh anyways, i havent seen that many games in my life either reason being becasue when i lived in the bay area i wasnt like a die hard fan of the san jose sharks & when i moved thats when i became one of those diehard fans. the last time i went to a game was in october of 2005 right after the lock out, i want to go to another game live so bad, but what can i do. i support my team no matter what, through the good times & the bad times.

  15. if you are able to hold a good conversation/debate about teams, players, and the game in general, without just being a bandwagon-er,  you can probably consider yourself a hockey fan.

or if you would kill for playoff tickets

  16. regardless of if your team wins or not, you put up with all the heckling and stand by your team regardless of what happens.

I am a die-hard canucks fan and i have never seen a game live in my life.  (i live in ontario).  I don't watch the playoffs because my 'nucks are out.  I insist Roberto Luongo is the BEST goalie in the UNIVERSE regardless what happens.

You can't just watch the team play... you have to keep up with the management changes and the team's strategy.

  17. Honestly, Just as long as you Love the sport, and The team. Your a fan. You don't have to have all their items or collectibles, thats just an expression. If you watch the games religiously, and Love it, Your fan. Nothing more to it.

  18. in my mind a true fan is a fan that was with the team through there losing streaks, winning streaks, terrible losses, awesome wins, through thick and thin. a diehard fan would protest in the streets if their team might move. or even just keeping record of all the games the've played. in my mind, thats a die hard fan(:
