  1. It is talking about fear of change.  The caterpillar represents a person before a major change in their life.  They are comfortable with their world, just hanging out on leaves and munching.  The concept of that life ending, of wrapping themselves up in a cocoon in the dark, of going through transformation, of swapping their peaceful life for an uncertain life at the mercy of wind and predators and constantly worrying if your wingbeat is going to be the one that starts a hurricane in Tokyo, is terrifying.  That is how people are before changes in their life.  From an external perspective, we see the butterfly as the more beautiful being, the transformation as an improvement, but for the caterpillar reaching that time in its life it seems like the end of everything it knows and loves.

It is a metaphor that death is just a transitional phase of life.

However no one has yet emerged from their coffin as a butterfly.

  7. It is like seeing the full grown tree within the seed..

you must not look at a circumstance for what it is in the present but for what limitless potential it may have in the future..

see things as they truly are, not in their present transient form.
