What do you bring on a trip to San Diego?

My family is visiting San Diego to see my older brothers graduation. We live in Iowa and I've never been out of state. Right now the schedule looks something like this.

Day 1: Go on plane, get off plane, meet my brother, and stay in hotel to unpack, then go and eat out.

Day 2: See brothers graduation, eat out, then probably do a little sight seeing.

Day 3: Do rest of sight seeing then yet again eat out.

Day 4: Go to beach and again eat out.

Day 5: Pack, get a quick snack, then get on plane and head home.

Where would be good places for 4 people to eat at? Also, what should I pack? Thank you!

  1. Being a tourist anywhere means walking. Bring comfortable shoes. San Diego is casual, bring sandals.

San Diego is 60 miles on a side, and has beaches, 6,000 ft. mountains, and a desert. Visit to the zoo is mandatory, best in the world.

Don't go home w/o a swim in the Pacific. Today's temp at the beach was 75 air, 70 water. Sun will burn you badly. La Jolla (said La Hoya) shores beach has parking.

Restaurant  reservations save headaches. Almost all accept casual dress, its a tourist town. Eat fish here, beef in Iowa! Fish tacos!  Mexican food!

  2. Swimsuit

    sweater

    shorts pants

visit the beach - zoo - sea world - wild animal Park -

Take the Old town trolley for the tour and shopping along with restaurant's Off and on Privileges

Lots of places to eat in the gaslamp district downtown or in

    Seaport village

  3. It's always fun to make reservations to dine at Georges Outdoor Bistro Terrace while the sun is setting. This is in La Jolla.  Also go to Extraordinary Desserts for one of their incredible desserts.  It's on 5th in the Balboa Park area.  Cafe Coyote in Old Town is fun place for Mexican food.

Take your bathing suit, a beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, casual clothing....shorts and pants.  It can get cool in the evening so bring a sweatshirt or jacket too.  Don't forget a camera.

  4. sun block and lots of money

  5. hmm, packing should be like any trip you've taken. though i see you've never been out of state. i couldn't stop laughing at the comment "bullet proof vest", its kinda funny. but anyways, if you'r gonna be spending a good amount of time here (i live in sd) then i'll tell you..

for the plane you'r going to need snacks. bring a waterbottle if you can, some chips, munchies and entertainment. the plane can be a bit boring i imagine, though i never been on one. you'r gonna wanna bring your camera of course! for the grad. and bcause SD is an amazing place.  itll probably be warm, though im not sure when your coming exactly. so dont pack really heavy warm winter weather wear. ;p bathing suit for the beach and a towel.

    pack your necesseties, of course

-to eat you can try different things. you can always just go to ihop or something. thats nice for a grad. even though stil a bit cheapr. we have plently of nice restauarnts. outback, anything. if you like seafood i'd say try the seafood buffet at todai. its japanese. more expensive, but you might wana take your brother out. i dont know ;p
