When my family and I talk in Chinese, we refer to all Hispanics as Mexicans. That's what I was taught. Is there a word for "Hispanics"?

What word/phrases do you use to refer Hispanic people in Chinese(Mandarin or Cantonese)?

  1. 拉丁美裔人.

  2. Tony is slightly off.

西班牙 (xī bān yá) = Spain

墨西哥 (mò xī gē) = Mexico

To make it so a person is from that country, you would add 人 (rén, which literally means "person") so it becomes "person from x country."

西班牙人 (xī bān yá rén) = Spanish / Spaniard

墨西哥人 (mò xī gē rén) = Mexican

I'm not sure if there's a word "hispanic" in Mandarin vocabulary, but you could say:

拉丁美洲人 (lā dīng měi zhōu rén) = Latin American

  3. I'm afraid what you thought is not true.

In fact, Hispanics and Mexicans completely different in chinese.

    Hispanics is 西班牙( xi1 ban1 ya1)

    Mexicans is 墨西哥(mo4 xi1 ge1)
