What do you call a play or a movie that does not have a dénouement?

I remember learning about this kind of play in a theatre class in college and I've just seen 2 movies with this kind of ending. What they do is deliberately leave out the dénouement and end the movie/play shortly after the climax in order to withhold catharsis so that the audience is motivated to act. Does anyone know what this genre/type is called?

  1. That's a good question... i really don't know.

I've never heard of a specific term to describe a drama without a denouement...

    Sorry

Edit: peripeteia? Look at the definition... see if that's what you mean
