I'm talking about tide of the ocean. The dictionary says that tide is the periodic variation [up and down], but I want to know if there are two separate words for the movement of water in each direction?

Thanks

  1. Bathymetry

  2. ebb is outgoing tide

    flood is incoming tide

  3. flood tide: tide going in

    ebb tide: tide going out.

A marine transgression is a longterm flooding of low lying areas due to rising sea levels. This isn't tidal but is instead controlled by ice, ocean basin shape, plate tectonics etc.
