I'm not saying I do it. I don't own any animals or pets anyway.

  1. I call it cruel, you should never ever do this to a cat.  While it doesn't hurt the cat directly it can put alot of pressure on it's internal orgrans and can cause it alot of problems.  Mother cats only do it to very small kittens when they are young...

  2. Scruff of the neck?

  3. it is called scruffing but my cat is about 5-7 weeks old and it still likes being picked up that was but usually i just pick it up by scooping it up with my hand

  4. Reprimanding.

  5. It's called scruffing.  Here is an article about it:

  6. abuse

  7. I call it scruffing, but you should only do it when they're kittens.

  8. We call it scruffing...but I would NEVER suggest picking up a cat in this way.

  9. It's called scruffing. The only time anyone should do this is if the cat is totally out of control and in danger of hurting someone or himself.

Please don't listen to the people that believe this is an "okay" thing to do. Only the mother should pick up a kitten this way... after all she has no other way to move them around. Also keep in mind that picking up a kitten like this is much different than picking up a full grown cat by the scruff of its neck. Full grown cats obviously weight more, so it pulls much more on their skin/neck and can make it difficult for them to breathe.

The proper way to pick up a cat is to scoop up their back feet with one hand, and use the other hand to cradle them under the chest, and let their front paws rest comfortably over your forearm.
