What do you call people who work on trains?

The train version of flight attendants? What are they called?

  1. According to  wikipedia, a car attendant.


  2. 1 - Engineer. This is the person who drives the train.

    2- Conductor. This is the person who looks after the passengers. Amongst other duties they collect the fares and inform passengers of the stations.

    3- Porter. This is the person who works both the luggage and the food concessions.

  4. Well, where I'm from we call people who work on train the following:

    -train driver or train operator (subway/metro or electric railway)

    -street car driver, trolley driver (street cars and trolleys)

    -conductor

    -engineer (non-electric railway)

    -track worker

    -station agent (subway/metro)

    -dispatcher

  7. In Britain the traditional name is 'guards'. As their role has been enhanced to include checking and selling tickets and giving customers information etc, most train companies have renamed them 'train managers' or 'conductors'; the people who work on catering services on the train are usually called

    'customer hosts' if they are given any name at all.
