Question:

What do you call the horses/riders that lead out the race horses?

Around here we call them an assortment of things, but I never have known what the "real name" for them is.

Just wondering because me and my cousin are going to be in a costume class next week - she'll ride my racing bred TB x QH as a jockey/race horse and I'll be her "team mate" or "partner" as the people who lead out the race horse.

  1. I have always called them escorts, but that isn't the official name for them.  I know they aren't hot walkers--so are or could they possibly be exercise jockeys.

    A thoroughbred crossed with a quarter horse cannot race, and neither can a quarter horse crossed with a thoroughbred.
