  2. We have one in our kitchen and we call it a pulley really handy thing too

  3. We always called it the pulley at home but when they became fashionable in the 80's for the country look kitchen with dried herbs or pans etc hanging from it they were advertised as a Shelia Maid. But like most things from the past they had several different names to  mean the same thing.

  4. A clothes horse?

I'm not too sure what you mean..

  5. OMG WHY DO YOU WANT TO NO.

  6. Shelia Maid, I know it sounds a bit random but I recently did a bit of research into it with a friend and we believe that even in the UK this may be the unofficial term.

I grew up with one and my Mum always used to refer to it as 'the airer'.

  11. A clothes horse or A maiden, depending on where you are from.

  12. It was called a 'clothes horse' - the most common type being that which could be hauled up to the ceiling where all the warm air is, thus enabling the drying of clothes.

There was and is another kind of 'clothes horse' which is again used indoors but which stands on legs on the kitchen floor or some other suitable room in the house which is warm.

Small standing clothes horses were often used to stand damp clothes in front of a coal fire in the house.

Them was the daze. . . .I know, cos I was there.
