A VHS-C tape can, with an adaptor, play in a VHS home player. No other system, video8, miniDV, beta, for example can be adapted to work in a VHS deck because the tape is formatted differently. The VHS-C was never very popular, but the smaller diameter tape heads invented for camera use was a smash success with manufacturers, and most of the later model home VHS decks are made with the smaller heads.
