  1. Usually they are fans of anime and/or manga who don't fit in where they are, so they develop an infatuation with "Japan", picturing it as a place where everyone is "like them" and they'll fit in.

It's completely wrong, but thats what most "wannabe-Japanese" are.

  2. People obsessed with Anime, all they talk about is Japan, they listen to Japanese music, they only know Japanese from Anime, like, "ban ban" for bang bang.  They purposely switch L and R, they talk about how dreamy a Japanese actor/actress is, they try to be friends with all the Japanese/Asian kids at school.

All those features, not just one or two.

  3. Many people get the misconception that just because a person watches anime and reads manga it makes them a wapanese (wannabe Japanese).  I love anime and manga and very interested in Japanese culture, but I wouldn't trade my American background for anything.

A wapanese on the other hand is someone who wants to be Japanese and knows nothing about the culture and they usually dismiss everything that isn't Japanese.

  4. I don't see anything wrong with trying to learn about the culture and trying to become a part of it. The only one's I would call wannabe is the anime nerds who think they are Japanese but yet are too lazy to pick up a book and learn the Japanese language or anything about the real culture.

  5. a white guy working in a japaniese resteraunt,....

  6. I would say someone who is fixated on all things Japanese. language, food, art, clothes, culture everything and tries to show this off to others.

So If the person is reading manga all day and wearing a kimono around L.A. or Boise or wherever they may be from then it's safe to say that person is a wannabe I think. I don't know if it is good or bad but that is what I would consider to be a wannabe.

  7. To be a "wannabe-Japanese" person? I'd say the lingo that Anime/manga lovers use. It does become annoying if a young person starts talking about a certain Japanese...'thing', and I have no idea what they're talking about...but at the same time I get annoyed with computer nerds talking in jargon.

To me, there is nothing wrong with liking a different culture. Part of my position in college as Secretary for the Diversity Organisation was to spread awareness of other cultures, so we wouldn't be caught up in our own culture.  I myself and also my friends love Japan and it's our prerogative to do so. I'm personally learning the language on my own and I have a dream to work someday in the historically-rich and beautiful country. But yes, wannabe-japanese people are usually those who talk like "kawaii" and "baka", etc. Hope this helped!

  8. Fools that think about Japan as anime, manga, hairstyles and the ladies. Well, I can't blame them for the ladies because we do have the most beautiful ladies in the world. But ya fools like that and the worst part is they want to come down. Do you people realize when we Japanese come down to another country especially the US we get the stupid Asian stereotype treatment. Before you come down make sure you make a difference in your culture to respect Asians better.

  9. Ting Tong off Little Britain perhaps?

    :)

  10. Hmm.. You mean usual Wapanese? I know a lot of them.. Hey i see them every day on the internet..

It is say small things such as 'baka' or 'kawaii' and are obsessed with anime and manga.. And they probably don't know as much about Japan as they think they do. Or when they obsess about living in Japan as soon as possible, without knowing ANYTHING about the country.

Obviously there's nothing wrong about learning the culture but d**n, if you start buying chop sticks, wearing kimono's and saying 'moshi moshi' to your mom on the phone, you're right there! (My Japan obsessed friend does that all, plus writing to me in Japanese on Crunchyroll!).

So the wannabe-Japanese or Wapanese usually admire anime and manga and think that the WHOLE of Japan loves and likes anime and lives anime or manga type of lifestyles.
