  1. blood. If someone is looking for ancestors it must be blood relitive. Anyone else ( adopted or other) is not "related" to you.

  2. both or either, whichever the case may be.

  3. Adoption, marriage, common-law relationship and any other close relationship that brings people to share life experiences.  If you are tracing roots, you may find that your "family" may include members that "just grew up" in the household.  Sometimes it is difficult or impossible to find records of the genetic parent, but that adds to the interest of searching!

  4. Family is whomever you say it is. DNA wise, you are related to many people but relationship wise you are family to those that are close to you. Your spouse is family, his family is family and you don't share DNA with any of them (usually). My parents have very good friends who are my "aunts and uncles" and I know I can call them in a pinch for anything. They are family. I have other members of my actual blood family I don't really interact with, they are family by circumstance only.

  5. blood and dna maybe
