What do you consider popular?

I myself am not very popular, but if you considered popularity on a smaller scale, like popular within a group of friends, then I am. I'm not trying to make myself feel better by people telling me I'm popular, so don't get that impression. But I want to know, Y!A Answerers- what do YOU consider to be the qualities of a popular person, and how do they do it?

If a lot of people know that person, and half of those people that know them don't even talk to them...then that's popular to me...
