Did you count the "ma-ma da-da" babble when they were 5-7 months old or do you wait until they KNOW what they are saying, like point at you and say mama or dada, or other words.

  1. My youngest son's first word was E-I-E-I-O (singing along to the song).

  2. I joke and say it's Ah-Goo, lol, but when he does say his 1st "real" word, I'll go w/ that one.  : )

  3. those words are considered real words, the kid don't know what is papa or mama but at he or she say it, you should be happy because your child is been normal, so considered as like you already have someone calling you dad or mom in his or her way, bye bye

i have a son, 24 months old, and he say every single world he heard almost instantly, yopu will be crazy at that time lol, bye bye

  4. My daughters first word was YAY!!!! because she liked to clap and get everyone around her to clap with her. My sons was GO! usaully down in threes GO GO GO! Usually when someone is holding his hands helping him walk around.

  5. When you KNOW what they're saying, that's when my whole family counts it.

My cousin did the usual baby babble till she was like 8 months and one day she accidentally knocked over her Cheerio bowl and said "oh ****" so her first word were "oh ****" =]

  6. No

  7. FATTY BUNN BUNN - it really was

  8. no i considered it the first thing she said besides mama dada. Her was dog at about 10 months

  9. their TRUE first word is not until they know what they are saying :) this doesn't happen until around 1 yr (i think) but i do remember from my linguistics class that the babbling is not considered first words...it's when they consciously use a word in the correct way.

  10. It depends, in ya way, mama-da-mmuumi ( or whatever else they say), could mean they are meaning something, so if your child eventually repeats it a few times, and is looking towards something, well maybe it could !

But there is a lot of different words a child could say for the first time.

In one case, a baby said " love" to his father, but it is usually, mama, dada, or mummy/daddy.

But if you would like your child to learn his first word, how about, each morning when entenring his room, saying " Hello ( name of the child ) ! This could teach him to say hello, as well as if he understends, his name!

I hope that my answer has helped,

         Bye  bye !

  11. well my fist word was a swear word so i don't know

  12. I dont have a child yet im only 18 years old but my first word was mama

  13. I don't count the mama, baba, dada, until they know.

  14. Johnny's been saying mama for a while, but I think he's just now figuring out that I am mama, lol.

However... He's saying uh-oh now.  At first he would just say it but now when he drops something he looks at me and says "Uh-oh..." so I'm going to consider Uh-oh his first word, lol

  15. Haha. I consider it the first thing that is understandable to surrounding people. Not mama and dada, but other words. Mine was apparently "button" and my brother actually had a fragment. His was "fat off chicken" because my parent's were discussing dinner that night. hahaha.

  16. mama, and yes I count it because he knew who his mama was.
