  1. My daughter turned one at the end of April and we had her birthday at a Pizza Parlor.  If you've got a pizza place that has games or something.  Or a bounce house place that has a toddler area.

  2. honestly, a one year old will not be able to understand much of what is going on. At that age they still need to be on strict eating and napping schedules and all the excitement around him might throw him off and make him irritable. If you want to do just one hour or so with other kids it's fine but don't think you have to plan a whole day thing

making him a little cupcake or muffin with a candle to blow and just having family over for a cake and some present opening - the only part of which he will actually be interested in is the paper- should be enough. Save the time and energy for bday parties for when they're older and can actually understand or get excited over it.

P.s start practicing blowing with him about 2 weeks- 1 month in advance if you want him to be able to manage on his own on his big day.

I know it's exciting to see your little one reach such a milestone but don't forget about you and daddy. my husband and I took some time to celebrate our first year of parenthood instead- i think the day had a lot more meaning for us than for her so it was nice.

To answer your question: I got him a card thanking him for being such a supportive husband and exemplary father for the first year of her life. He got me flowers.

In the afternoon we went and got professional couple and family portraits done. And in the evening we went to mass in thanksgiving for the many blessings we had received.

We took the time to contemplate all the changes in our lives, how parenthood made us better people, how it completed our love, what we had learned what we went through- had a few laughs reminiscing on the early weeks, though at that time i was mostly crying hehehe.

But in the end it doesn't matter what you do. Just as long as you take the time to ponder on what parenthood means, on what you have accomplished and wish to accomplish. We always put children first from day one and sometimes you need a special occasion to take the time and do these things.

  3. Noah will turn one on April 4th. :)

You could always have it at your house if you're not too worried about the mess they'll make. Or, if there is a soft play center near your house you could take them all there. Gosh, I'm not too sure either... I figure Noah will be happy with a cake he can play in and ripping the paper off a few presents.
