  1. If they have a questionnaire on the table about how the service was, you should fill that in. If they don't, you should say to them that they should improve - if you have a lot of guts lol!

  2. Yes, sometimes they may be going through certain circumstances that are causing their service to not be up to your standard.

  3. ask for a manager, and cut the tip in half

  4. I give a tip no matter what.... If its bad service I just dont tip much ( maybe $2).

  5. Depends. Is it REALLY the server's fault, or are you being an ***? I would consider that first, but then again, I'm not THAT kind of customer. If you're a needy, whiney person then you should take a step back and think about things. I mean, if you were the type to ask for a whole bunch of extra/custom stuff for your order, needed a lot of refills, had obnoxiously messy children, were rude or snippy to your waiter, and had a snit-fit if something went the wrong way (even after the server fixed it AND was nice about it) or freaked out about honest mistakes...Then you should check yourself and apologize to your server.

However, if you really did receive bad service and it IS your server's fault (as in, they were really rude), then you ask to see a manager. This could cost the employee their job, though, so make sure that they really deserve it before you do it.

  6. I can't understand the American custom of tipping???

If they are employed there boss should pay their wage. A good service isn't a skill it's the job.

In my country if the service and food are excellent for a $100 bill your lucky to get $5 tip. Anything more is stupid....

However on saying that in my country wages are pretty good and people don't depend on tips to live.... Also meal prices are expensive so I guess the meal price covers the better wages.

For example you can buy a packet of raw pasta for $2 in the supermarket. If you eat out 1/4 of that pasta will be used for your plate with $1 source and the bill will be around $40. To give the waiter $12-20 tip to me is stupid, Im not sure how it works or if its the same rates over in the US.

  7. A tip is for good service.  How bad is really bad?  If they forgot to bring the food or ignored me I would tell the manager because I would not go back even if the food was good.

  8. Ask to speak w/either the manager or at least the supervisor on duty. Just explain to them your issue w/the service. Usually, the make corrects to the issue on the spot.

  9. Ya I write on the napkin this is your tip!!!

    Don't spit in the wind!!

    (the service here sucks!)

  10. here's the way i tip:

start at 20% of the bill.

i deduct 1% for every time my glass is empty (he/she should refill your glass BEFORE it's empty), let the dishes sit on the table too long, if the meal was cold (it's the server's fault if it's cold. if he didn't have time to take it out, he should have asked one of the other servers to take it out), if he only showed up at the table for orders and serving food (they should check in every now and then), is he makes us feel rushed so he can squeeze in another table, and over-all service and "vibe".  YOU pay him, so he should serve to YOUR standards.  (in SC, servers make a measley, $2.25/hour... they rely on those tips.  If they give crappy service, they OBVIOUSLY don't need the money that bad.)

so, basically, it's up to the servers to determine how much tip they get.  if they do gret, the get 20%. if the do bad, depending on HOW bad, they could get nothing.

  11. Listen you always, always, always tip no less than 15%.  However, leave a penny heads down on the table.  that lets a server no they did a bad job.  since they are probably new, I suggest tipping them the 15% and talking to the manager.  You might even get a free meal out of it.  But always tip your server.

  12. If the service is really bad, don't tip at all, or complain to a manager.

  13. Yes, but I give them a bad tip (maybe a quarter or something).  I want them to know that I remembered to tip them.  (Not tipping, they may think you just forgot or you're a foreigner or something).

  14. Absolutely not. When waitresses aren't doing their jobs properly, the restaurant owner will find out about it. He'll say "Where's all your tips?" and she will say she didn't get much. Well, the restaurant owner will say you better clean up your act! Because if she was doing her job her pockets will be overflowing with dollar bills.

When you get bad service in a restaurant, not tipping is a surefire way of improving the service of the restaurant.

  15. It depends. If it's very busy and they are short-staffed, and the server is apologetic for the circumstance, I'd still tip decently. If it's a problem out of the server's control (slow kitchen staff, foreign objects in food, waiting to be seated too long) I'd speak to the manager and still tip. If the server's rude, unattentive, can't get the orders right, is off talking to friends/coworkers instead of doing their job, etc. the tip gets lower and lower for every infraction. I may also speak to the manager depending on how bad it is.

  16. Don't tip them, if it's really bad complain to the manager-maybe you'll get a discount

  17. h**l no. and if the food sucks i send it back. if the service sucks i dont leave a tip and dont come back. plus i spread the word. simple as that.. its just food, and service. its not hard. ive worked in quite a few resturants.

  18. well yeah we usually do but its like a $1.00 tip  to show that we did not enjoy it with out making a scene

  19. You don't give them a tip and you complain to the manager.

  20. I give them a 10% tip.  Which sucks for them because I'm a really good tipper, usually 40-50%.

Getting worked up about service in a restaurant isn't something I do, because it's just not worth the aggravation.

  21. no tip and tell the manager what problems you had.  If he doesn't know, he can't change it.

  22. I've dine n ditch.but I'm just crazy..Don't do it..instead DON'T EVER TIP..AND GO THERE.

  23. I ask for a manager and complain to them.

  24. Depends on how bad or why they were bad! But usually have a talk with the manager and you will get a discount on your bill and not tip very much.. I have only had bad service once..
