Question:

What do you do if your 12 month old won't drink milk?

My 12 month old no longer wants formula bottles. I decided to go ahead and take her off of it and move on to the next stage which is milk. She won't drink it out of a bottle or sippy cup. She drinks water and I am feeding her meats, cheeses, apple sauce and yogurt but I am worried that she is not getting what she needs from milk. I also bought the Enfamil vitamin drops but she hates them and I can barely get them down her throat so I tried mixing them in the applesauce and she didn't notice. Is it ok that she is not drinking milk? I will talk to my dr. about this when I go in two weeks but I'm not sure what I should be doing in the meantime...

  1. I'm sure it is fine since she is getting other foods with calcium. You can also buy vitamin drops for babies. They also have vitamin gummies. I know wal-mart carries them.

  2. You are doing the right thing by offering other dairy like yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese.

Keep offering her milk, she may eventually take it. Don't pressure her though, that will only make her want to refuse it more.

  3. You should be able to call and let him know that you're having problems and need to talk to him before you come in to see him. Otherwise, try asking family members that have had kids (your mom and dad, aunts, uncles, what ever) and see what they think.

  4. My doctor told me instead of quickly switching over you should mix the milk with alittlebit of formula so they are acustomed to the taste.  This worked easily for my daughter. But i have been known to do a No No lol.  I bought a sugar free chocolate milk mix and i gave that to her when she didnt want to do the formula anymore, but now the chocolate milk is for when she doesnt feel good

  5. Just keep offering it to her. In the mean time, offer her other foods that are high in potassium and calcium. Milk is also needed for the fat for brain development. I am not sure what other types of fat are good for that, so hopefully someone can help you there. And.. if she's eating real cheese, that is one step in the right direction. She might be willing to eat it in cereal, or other things, so you might want to try that as well. Hope I helped at least a little.

  6. I have the same problem with my son before when he was like 12 or 13 months..he wont drink his formula soy milk. I went and asked my doctor and she said that its just normal and he is just exploring.she said as long as he's eating healthy stuff he should be okay .she also said that its nothing to worry about and its just normal..he eats solid food , fruits and veggies and would only drink his formula at night before going to bed or taking his nap...i change his formula to regular soy but it didnt work..he's drinking it but he looks like he's getting thin so i change it to SIMILAC GO GROW.. his chubby cheeks went back and he looks more healthier.. Now he drinks SIMILAC GO GROW like  4 times a day...

for now, just make sure she eats a lot of fruits and healthy stuff..

  7. Well, my son is 2 now and he wouldn't drink milk either. I put it in his bottle and he wouldn't drink it. I even warmed it up a little bit, he kind of liked that. I don't know if your daughter prefers her bottle or a cup. But put the milk in whatever she likes to drink from the most. Then add some formula to it and mix it with the milk sort of warm. That's what I did with my son and I gradually started adding less and less formula with the milk. The transition worked great. My doctor told me to try that since I had such a hard time with him. The doctor was concerned cause he wasn't getting enough dairy. I did this for about 2 weeks till I was hardly putting anything into the bottle.

  8. My daughter did the same thing.  You are doing all the right things.  I would still call the pediatrician just to see what they say.  My daughter never drank milk and still doesn't at the age of 10.  She is a very healthy girl who still loves cheese and yogurt.
