What do you do if your boss ignores you?

What if they give you the "my door is always open" spiel, but when you go in and express the problem and the solution to the problem, he says "thanks for your input, I'll make a note of it" and then his feet go back up on his desk and nothing ever happens?

What if your boss is so out of touch with the department and with reality that he doesn't agree that there is a problem and therefore doesn't do anything about it?

Obviously there IS a problem, otherwise I wouldn't have gone in and told him about it and offered a solution that would not only have solved the problem but increased the efficiency of the department!

So what do you do in those types of situations?

  1. Do you have a government job? You must know MY boss...unfortunately, there isn't much you can do. All you can do is bring it to their attention and then hope for the best. Usually best, never comes. In some instances, there is a head above them, you could type a anonymous letter and detail some problems, solutions, etc... and send it or slide it under the door. In it, stating you have tried to approach the supervisor but apparently they like things as they are. But if you have already spoken to them and they hear of it, they will know where it comes from. SO, the only other thing to do, is to write up a partition of the problem and have several people sign it. Then no one is singled out.

  2. don't go above the boss' head unless it's something very serious.  That winds up looking like back-stabbing.  Because they always find out.

    Just let him know you're willing to help.  And that you're a trustworthy person.

  3. your boss is retarded

  4. Jump right over his head and seek the next in command!

  5. goo higher;;

    tell him/her if they keep doin that that ur gonna call coorperate or the GM;;

  6. I praise Jesus when my boss ignores me. I feel that "my door is always open" stuff is a lot of c**p. The boss doesn't want needy employees in his office all the time.

    I think he has faith in you to handle the matter yourself or he would be babysitting the situation by now.

    Good luck.

  7. go to the next up in the ladder....

    my boss is like that too..

    hard to communicate with him

    my fellow co-workers and i vent to each other about it, butnone of use has really found a good solution.

  8. Keep doing your bit and keep working sincerely. U don't wanna p**s the boss off. If u have to, keep reminding him gently periodically. But no matter what, keep working hard at ur job.

    Bosses are of all kinds. If u do have to talk to a higher up, why not bump into the higher up spontaneously and casually mention. But don't take the bosses name, so it won't be like u r name-dropping or complaining bout the boss. Focus on the problem, not the boss. After that, mention to your immediate boss that u happened to meet the higher-up and mention that this is what he said.

    Always be polite and kind. And do the right thing.

    Don't bring politics in.

    Take care..

  9. that's their job to tell you that.. 99% of the time.. they don't want your opinion and they don't want to be bothered by you.. Going over his head with matters are not Extrememly important could lose you your job so do that cautiously.. If he really thought there was a problem and appreciated your advice/thoughts he would have done something about it.. Truth be told, he doesn't care.. They do no more than they have to do.. You did  your part.. it' s up to him now..  but I would not waste my time suggesting anything else because experience tells you he doesn't care. and trust me that going over his head is NOT a good idea.. unless it involves a health safety issue... you may lose your job
