  1. Let off the gas, DO NOT BRAKE, when its safe, pull off to the shoulder,  when your speed is low, SOFTLY press the brakes.

  2. Tires are very well made today and blowouts don't happen very often.  Having said that, it may still happen.

If it is a rear tire, the car is still very easy to control.  Just coast down to a stop ( braking gently when the vehicle reaches a slower speed ) and pull over on to the shoulder or on to a side street.

If a front tire blows, you will immediately feel the car want to turn in the direction of the side that the tire blew.  Grip the steering wheel with both hands to keep the vehicle straight and, as described above, bring the vehicle down to a slower speed and pull over or pull off the road.

  3. feet off ALL pedals

Grip wheel a bit firmer. stay straight as you can

    roll  almost to stop

    steer GENTLY to side

    Gently brake to halt.

    Handbrake, neutral

    Cry.

(Regular tyre pressure checks should prevent this happening)

  4. slowley pull over to the side of the road to saftey and change your tire

  5. Determine which tire has blown out. A blowout on a front tire will create a drag which will pull the vehicle toward the side of the blowout.

A blowout on a rear tire will create a fishtail skid in the direction of the blown out tire, especially if you are on a curve.

Remove your foot from the accelerator. Grip the steering wheel firmly with both hands in the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions.

Steer to maintain your position in the lane you are in. Engage your right turn signal. Check traffic visually. When it is safe to do so steer the vehicle onto the shoulder of the road.

Brake gently until you bring the vehicle to a complete stop well out of traffic. Engage your hazard lights. Change the blown out tire in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.

  6. PRAY

  7. Try not to use the brakes, but coast to a stop at the side of the road. Blowouts aren't as dangerous as they used to be.
