  1. There is an additional fee for an unaccompanied minor in almost all cases, so your friend will need to contact the airline directly or book through a travel agent.  This way the fee can be collected and the record can be noted.  Also, since there are sometimes restrictions on the total number of unaccompanied minors on one flight, flights that look available online may have already maxed out their unaccompanied minor slots (this sometimes happens around the holidays, for instance).

    Good luck!

  2. my cousin(13) went to peru alone so she paid $100 for someone to accompany her to the airport and to drop her of from the airport in lima to where she needed to go

  3. It is best to purchase from the airlines.  Suprisingly, you can get the same deals that you would get from online booking venues.   First pick your preferred dates and times and inform the airline agent of what you want. You need to inform them that she is a minor ---there may be extra fees involved with that, but not much more.

I was told by United that you can book online through ticketing venues, then call them and inform them that the traveler is a minor so that they are aware.  I believe they place a letter designation the name.
