  1. Parents are concerned about 3 things when a child goes to another country. Safety, Safety and Safety.

Deserved or not, Mexico has a reputation of being an unsafe place, especially for a female teenager. I suspect this is the obstacle preventing you from going.

Concentrate your presentation to your parents on the trip being chaperoned, secure hotel, not being alone at any time, won't be out at night, avoiding scary places, etc.

Then back it up with the educational benefits of an International experience.

Drinking, Dancing and laying around on the beaches is trip killer. Admit that it would be nice, but not the priority of this trip.

    Good Luck.

  2. If you are going with your school, I am assuming that there will be adult chaperones who will be assisting with trip planning.  Often, school groups will have an informational night for parents and interested students.  Make sure that they attend that if one is offered.

Ask adults going with the students for a detailed itinerary and information on the cities and places where you will be staying and visiting.  Check out websites and find additional information.

Find out the reasons that your parents are concerned about your travel.  If you know their concerns, then you can specifically research them.  If, for instance, they are worried about disease or illness, research those specific concerns.  Check the internet, ask knowledgeable adults and chaperones, and come back to Answers to ask more questions!

Many people often say "no" to something when they are fearful or don't have adequate information.  If you demonstrate that you are respectful of their fears and want to help them research the answers, you will stand a much better chance of changing that initial "no" into an enthusiastic "yes"!

  3. Hahaha, Mexico is safer than New York for example haha!

  4. Tell them that is the oportunity to meet another diferent culture, eat new food, practice your spanish, and be in contact with your self in a diferent enviroment.

The travels can be very educational. Tell them that you will be responsable.

  5. Mexico is no place for a young girl, your parents are just doing what they should. You should go some where nice and safe like Europe, leave Mexico to the Mexicans.

  6. Tell them you'll be safe. Tell them it's for your own good that you learn about a different culture in a different country.

  7. Just tell them that Mexico is one of the most visited countries in the world, and if that's a trip arranged by your school, you are deffinitely not going to risky places and risky situations. Tell them to relax, that you'll be in touch with them , give them a detailed schedule and why not, show them where you're going in Google Earth, or search for images in Google Images.  Good luck with your folks!
