  1. Well first, you need to take difficult classes at your school and get good grades in them. Junior year you should take the SAT once or twice. Last year as a junior, I took them in January and June.

  2. For the sources I have listed, click on the bottom right-hand link in the student body section that says "How do I stack up?" Then, you can see the average GPAs and SAT scores for last years admitted freshmen, as well as courses that it is suggested you take. You can even put in your own information, and it compares you to the present students.

Collegeboard.com has this feature for all colleges, and it's a very useful tool to keep you on track. The last link I provided compares all the three schools side by side for you. (It includes admission percentage, average SAT scores for each section, tuition, and number of students.)

    Good luck!

  3. If you are a California resident and finish in the top 10% of your HS class, you can get into one of the UC schools.

In order to get into the best ones (Berkeley <note spelling>, UCLA or UCSD), you will need to do better than just being in the top ten.  You ill need SAT scores in the 1900+ range, lots of AP classes and a well crafted admissions essay.  UC-Irvine is a great school -- but isn't quite as selective as the best UC schools.

If you are not a California resident, then the requirements will be slightly tougher.
