  1. i usually use some aged balsamic vinegar and olive oil as my dressing.  You can change the vinegars up to give different flavors.  It's very natural and very tasty.

I also put some cilantro in my salad, but not too much..It could overpower the salad.

  2. grilled chicken, olives, hard boiled eggs, feta cheese and cucumber dressing

  3. I usually add walnuts and mandarin oranges to my salad.

  4. I like to add chopped onions, chopped green peppers, broccoli florets, shredded carrots, bacon bits, croutons, and olives (kalamata, green or black) and then ranch, vinaigrette or greek dressing.

  5. strawberries with almonds and a strawberry vinaigrette

  6. Pink Grapefruit and avocado salad with honey dressing

    MMM making my mouth water

  7. There are lots of ways to vary your salad.

One variation I like is to add toasted walnuts, dried cranberries and feta cheese then use a raspberry dressing.

Or, and Asian salad, using mandarin oranges, chow mein noodles, slivered almonds and a sesame ginger dressing.

Sometimes I make a southwest salad with black beans, chopped green onions, crushed corn chips, black olives and salsa. Avocado is good here too if you want.

If you are just looking for visual variation, you can use red peppers, yellow peppers, red romaine, sprouts and other colorful vegetables.

  8. Not really unusual to me..

    Romaine & Spinach leaf lettuce

    Red Onions

Green Onions (just a bit, small dice)

    Feta Cheese

    Black Olives

    Tomato (thin wedges)

    Julienne Carrots

I use many different dressings sometimes blue cheese, house italian, or just plain ranch.

  9. I love marinated feta cheese in mine, any toasted nuts, Craisins, hearts of palm, or marinated artichoke hearts.  The appetizer below is also great as a salad dressing!

BLUE CHEESE WITH CAPERS AND RED ONION

    8 oz blue cheese, crumbled

    1/4 cup olive oil

    1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 Tbsp red wine or sherry vinegar

    2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp dry mustard powder (can sub Dijon)

    1/4 tsp ground black pepper

½ cup red onion, chopped fine

    1 Tbsp capers, rinsed

Crumble blue cheese onto a serving plate. Mix together the olive oil, lemon juice, wine vinegar, garlic, mustard, and black pepper. Drizzle over the cheese. Sprinkle red onion and capers over the top. Serve right away, or chill up to a full day before serving.

Serve with sturdy crackers or toasted baguette slicess. Great for buffet.

This is also good sprinkled over mixed salad greens as a the dressing. Toss well.

  10. Since I have an herb garden I always make Green Goddess Dressing.  It's hard to find in the stores and if you do find it, it's not that good.

I just put lots of fresh herbs in the food processor with lemon juice, a few anchovies, salt, pepper, equal parts of mayonnaise and sour cream and a little white wine vinegar if it turns out too thick.

It makes a great dip for crudite too.

I also add fresh made croutons.

  11. i do all different kinds of things to my salad.  never the same thing.  dried cranberries, raisins, sunflower seeds, bacon bits, different cheeses, garbanzo beans, walnuts, sun dried tomatoes, steamed or blanched asparagus.  it really depends what i have on hand and what i'm in the mood for.

as far as dressings, sometimes i make my own.  i have tried pomegranate blueberry vinaigrette and fig vinaigrette. both quite yummy.

  12. Add maple coated walnuts! mmm!

  13. Well,I love fresh vegetables,so I will put lots of fresh vegetables in my salad and I really like Ranch Dressing the best.

  14. I love to add shredded carrots to my salad, either lettuce or spinach.  I like to sometimes add re-fried beans.  For dressing, I like to add a combination of Western, for the sweetness because it curbs my sweet tooth, and Ranch or a form of Ranch or Green Goddess.

Instead of adding shredded or cubed cheese, try adding some low fat cottage cheese, it really makes it creamy!  I will add some crushed croutons or saltines if it is a little soupy.

  15. I am not a crouton fan, but I will throw just about everything else on a salad!  :)  Dried cranberries, rasins, sunflower seeds (shelled, of course), shredded cheese, chickpeas, beets, sliced fresh mushrooms, red onions, crushed red pepper flakes (like the kind they have at pizza joints), green bell peppers, hard-boiled eggs, black olives...etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.  :)

For dressing, I change it up quite often.  I will do a half-n-half mix of ranch & thousand island, or olive oil & balsalmic vinegar, or honey dijon, or raspberry viniagrette...I like variety.  :D

  16. I make a green salad with croutons, dried cranberries and a variety of different dressings.  My two favorites are:

    -Newman's Own Lemon Lime dressing

    -Italian balsamic vinaigrette
