  1. If you are a captain (Left seat pilot) in the airlines... you make a little bit above 200,000 a year. But i doubt you'll buy one. Very little people own those kinds of jets. The only person i can think of who owns his won jet privatley is the actor John Travolta, who owns his own Gulfstream

  2. Well, first you must obtain a multi-engine instrument rating. You will probably not be able to obtain insurance with less than 1,000 flight hours minimum to your credit including a good chunk of multi-engine time. You would then go through a specialized training course and annual re-certification.

From what I have read, the Mustang is a pretty easy aircraft to fly but things happen fast in a turbine aircraft so that's where training and experience come in. Right now, insurance for a 1500 hour multi instrument rated pilot is running $6-7000 a year.

Unless your family is rich, I'd suggest you save your pennies now and plan on a career with a pretty good salary to own just about anything more than a conventional single engine piston aircraft.

  3. John Travolta also owns a private 707 and 747-400 if I am correct but you may not need to own one why not try getting a job flying those planes for the few people that do own them hey you might get paid better then expected.

    Cheers

  4. Don't do drugs.

    Stay in school.

    Go to college.

    Work hard.

    voila... jet

  5. I would get into the medical profession. A shortage of surgeons is already starting to occur.

A jet for most people will be nothing more than a romantic dream. Remember their are plenty of airplanes that are fast and are not jets.

On a three million dollar jet you are looking at:

$18,000 per month payment for 15 years

$ 700     per month for insurance

Learning how to fly; IFR, TWIN, Turbine time, etc., Yearly Hanger, medical, inspection, and maint fees. And fuel to get the thing in the air.

  6. I have LOTS of friends who own their own jets.

They are generally successful business owners.

  7. Your going to have to do really well in the business field.  CEO material.  And then great with investments.  The 3 million to buy is just the beggining of the costs.  It will need inspections every 100 hours and yearly.  Fuel is well a lot.  The practicality of owning your own jet is far from reality.

My advice is this.  Mainly because I had the same mentality as you.  My best advice is to become a pilot and fly someone elses private jet for them.  Becuase no matter who is paying for the airplane it really belongs to pilot and mechanics who upkeep it.

Other benefits is that you will be paid to fly a million dollar jet.  You wont be stuck with one particular jet as you can progress in your career and take up new challenges and opportunities.
