do you listen attentively or just go on reading the menu wishing that she'd shut up and let you decide on your own? Don't you hate it when they never quote the price of the specials? Then you get a bill and the dish costs twice as much as the stuff on the menu?

  1. If I am at a up-scale restaurant I listen to the specials.  Usually the executive chef in places like that are really on their game and the specials are good.  If I'm at a Denny's I tune them out completley.

  2. Be polite and listen! It is part of the servers' job to recite the specials. Trust me, nothing is worse than describing specials to tables that just ignore you! If you want to know the price, ask. It's not that big a deal. Does it really hurt to listen to someone for a minute?

  3. Just simply say "excuse me but I already know what I would like to order, but thanks anyway" this way you aren't being rude and you get straight to the point:)

  4. I'd be so hungry I foam at the mouth.

  5. I like hearing the specials. they are usually pretty good.

  6. Listen to her... you may hear something good that you hadn't considered.  Usually their specials are at a special (lower) price.  You can also be glancing at the menu while she talks.  If you know what you want, you can stop her mid-spiel and say thanks, you know what you want & you're ready to order.

Also, if she doesn't quote the price, you can simply ask!  If you don't care for anything mentioned, just say "uh-huh" or "thank you".  The managers want them to do this, and some people are interested.

  7. I am polite and listen......and then ask for a few minute todecide....aslo most "good" servers tell you the price of the dish... if they dont then I ask if I am interested in that dish.....and if you listen you usually hear all info about this.  This is part of their job and I take this in account when prepparing tip...if  restaurant has specials and server just ask if i saw specials or want to hear, i reduce tip and notify,  Good servers inform customers in a helpful manner and therefore increase slaes in restaurant, mgt need to know info......and usually specials do not cost twice as much unless it is loster or surf n turf...usually specials are same price or less and offfer more and something diffferent than on menu....
