Question:

What do you do when you do not know what to do?

A state of inaction is a state of nothingness in the mind, a state of confusion and chaos undetected. The moments when we simply cannot make up our mind, cannot decide or choose are often the moments of peak vulnerability and discomfort. I have felt stupid in moments like this. It is like being sitting on your own self, being weighed down by your own weight. Then the question is, how to get going, how to haul ourselves out of such situations, the situations that keep us down, in a deadlock state of time wasting mode, how to find a way out when no way is visible?

Thanks for your endeavour in answering!

  1. The less the ego "I" becomes entangled in the chaos of concepts/ideas/thoughts, the more the clarity of guidance from within is heard.  We must remove the "self" to find the Self.  Inaction can be an opportunity to stop the crazy movement of the ever-changing monkey mind...to "listen" in the silence for the still, small voice of Source/All That Is/God.  Remember, when you do not know what to do, it is the ego "you" that brings confusion out of its reliance on the past and future, neither of which can possibly address the Now.  Wait, in trust, for Source to move through you, guiding you always to your highest good in every moment.  We must become an "empty" vessel, an agent for the perfect expression of the Absolute without the impediments of self-interested ego that distract and divert from our true nature. When we have come to the realization of this true nature as one aspect of the One/Divine/Source, we will be in complete congruence and agreeement with It in each moment, perfectly expressing Its will for us.

  4. My Teacher used to say that not deciding is to decide.

When I feel overwhelmed & lost not knowing which way to go or how to get started I ask for help from a wise Soul I trust. Many times I am not told what to do or how to decided, but I am gently pushed or given tools to find the answer or make the decision myself.  I think the wisest advice I have ever been given was to follow my heart & never look back. I have come to see that even when things look as if I have failed, that looks can be very deceptive.

Sometimes the way out is simply to take the first step, especially when overwhelmed. My experience has been that the energy & faith to deal with anything is given on demand. In other words, we get the direction when we get up & take the first steps, not when sitting in the chair worrying about how to start.

    Blessings!

  5. I'm a list person,

I list my options (including doing nothing),

I list the pros and con of each ,

    I list the possible consequences,

I list my deadlines (self or externally imposed).

Just putting pen to paper helps me put my thoughts in order. It makes me feel like I am already doing something and brings some semblance of order to the chaos of my mind. I can also take my lists to someone I trust to ask for their input and I it looks like I'm being logical. Lists help me to deal with things a little more objectively. Good luck. And remember sometimes doing nothing IS the best option at that time! If in doubt - do nowt.

  6. I will then turn to any possible fragmented ideas I have on how to deal with the situation(especially if it's for an answer on a test). However, in the event that I truly have absolutely NO IDEA what to do, I will sit there, helpless, and do nothing until some sort of inspiration comes to me.

  7. I just stick with what I think is right...

  8. Try a different direction.  Find something creative to focus on; exercise your mind till you can come back to the indecision.

  9. i close my eyes...take a deep breath...n think abt it...to calm down i lsten to music...

  11. in life there is always action. (for every action there is an equal and opposite RE-action). No such thing as nothing. confusion is only when you know the right decision but have yet not made it. all things happen for a reason. ask for guidance & your answers will come.

  12. When i feel that weighed down by indecision, i try not to make any decisions at all. I let my mind go blank and try not to think of anything, or i will perhaps take my mind off of it by reading, music, or something else where my mind can wander away from indecision. How do we get ourself ot of this situation?, we leave making any kind of decisions, sleep on it, and hope to feel in a better frame of mind tomorrow...

  13. Meditation and then dipping on related information.

  14. listen to the..............."music"!

  15. As you have already been able to detect your mental state, I think; it will be easy for you to detect the right objective you would like to achieve. No body knows what he should do unless he gets help from the external world around him. We are taught to do things by the world around us from our very childhood. Of course, there may be confusion, since we deposit all the information in our sub conscious mind and forget about the resources from where we gathered them in our sub conscious mind. Any new things we can do with the support or help, unless it is readily known to us.

  16. When I have no idea what to do, I look for some sort of sign in life. Usually a few come up. Somehow I know what they mean.

  17. I believe that one of the prime factors responsible for indecision is hyper anxiety caused by the deep concern to be right in view of the high level of importance accorded to the issue. Whenever I have faced such situations, I have simply resorted to prayers and the results have always been positive...... my mind clears up and comes up with a decision so that I can move on. If I analyze this dispassionately, it appears to me that once I resort to prayer, my mind gets freed up to an extent from the heavy burden of anxiety..... this perhaps then enables my mind to concentrate with better focus and come up thumbs up with a reasonable solution.

  18. I normally ask someone who is in a better position than I to know. I will consult an expert on the topic or someone who I know has previous experience in that area. I will, more often than not, trust their advice and act upon it.

If, on the other hand, it is a personal dilemma and conflict of the self, i'll probably just devote a bit of contemplation to it and decide after that.

If all that fails, I toss a coin and pretend that I know what I'm doing.

  19. i seriously don't know but yeah it has to be sometimes my mind and sometimes my heart whom i follow............depends on situation.......... i even don't know if it is worth explaining u as it would be of no use as u can see in these type of situation whatever u say it doesn't make out any meaning and when u think about some past happenings what u could is only laugh!(doesn't think if i can even make out any more meaning)

a good question well and if u are able to express urself let me know

  20. Fake it till you make it. Even if you choose not to choose, you still have made a choice.

  21. In such a situation, i consider it as a relaxing moment in my life. Feeling idle allows my body to be in a state of dormancy. I consider it though as a manifestation of regaining back my energy on the next move i will do.

  23. In time, a course of action will materialize.

  24. The first thing one has to do in such a situation is to tell oneself not to panic, to calm down and think analytically. One can seek help from friends and well-wishers too. Some times we face problems that have no solutions. In such situations the only option is to face the problem or situation with courage. ( That which cannot be cured, has to be endured.)

  25. if someone asked you the same question, what would you tell them to do? Normally the answer pops up randomly and you realise everything in that one moment for no apparent reason. Then it feels ten times better then if you would have sat there pondering over it for ages searching :)

  26. I will be in a state of passive awareness.

  27. Take a step back from your thoughts.

And observe them. Will the issue affect you in a year from now?

If not, that will probably calm things down and put them into perspective.
