  1. check out social security for some funds (not much) and see about getting help from other loved ones. Check in to insurance policies and payment options.

I knew a guy who got sued and they garnished his wages for his fathers funeral because after making arrangements with the funeral home he went to jail on a another matter and did not make the payments.

  2. most funeral homes have a way for you to make payments

  3. You can make arrangement with the funeral home or leave that person for the state.....they will bury him/her for free...

  4. are you the next of kin?   or is this just the family asking for a contribution?:

If you are the next of kin,  then you need to ask the family to help.  find out how much it will cost and then ask the sisters, brothers,   aunts, uncles , everyone to help, find out how much you can come up with, then go to the funeral homes and try to find one that can fit your needs, and your budget....... ( this is what our family has done on more than one occasion)

You may have to compromise and be wiling to cremate, and then dispose of the ashes, and have a simple ceremony at a home instead of the * traditional* one at the funeral home .  be willing to think out side the normal box.

No one should be left in debt,  or feel guilty when it is all said and done,

    good luck  ;)
