I am asking because I would like to make a living house sitting & pet sitting & I am wondering what people with horses normally do. Please, give me details so I can get a picture of your circumstances.

  1. You could horse sit for people, if you had rge requisite zoning permissions and adequate space and feed for the horse.Farms also exist that board other people's horses and other animals. Good Luck

  2. Well we're pretty lucky. If we ever have to leave for more than a couple days, then our neighbors take care of our horses.  They're good friends and we sold some of our land to them a few years ago.  Our horses share a fence line, actually.  So, if we ever need someone to feed/care for them, they are qualified to do so, and we do the same for them.

  3. we have a training facility with 35-45 horses all the time.  we usually have one of the trainer's assistants house sit so someone is here 24/7.  Our barn help comes in the am so the house sitter gets a break.  They also care for our dog if we can't take her with us.  we need to have someone who knows the property, the schedule, the horse's work schedule and each horse individually.  it's hard for us to get away.  Only about once a year.  Unfortunately we probably wouldn't use someone who is not already working here.

  4. I smile very sweetly at a couple of very close friends.

In my case they have to be close friends as me going away is pretty extreme and requires someone to live in so they can deal with 14 cats, 2 dogs ( one of which has separation anxiety) 3 tanks of fish, a lizard, a semi tame magpie and 4 horses.

They are pretty much guaranteed my help in anything they need in return !

  5. If I didn't have a friend I'd trust, I'd look for a recommended house sitter. If you have a lot of experience with horses, start out giving people discounted rates. Do an EXCELLENT job and they will recommend you to their friends.

  6. normally people find the closest neighbor with horses... but when we were gone for two weeks we brought my mare to her farrier's house to chill with all their horses and fatten up... she is an only child here and gets lonely without constant company.

we might be getting another horse soon! ..just had to say that!

  7. Me and a close friend share a property, with two houses, but our horses share the barn and paddocks, and we don't really go on vacation much together, but when we do, we have a friend come over, stay at one of the houses, and feed the horses, and take care of them.

  8. Well i am going to board my horse so that wouldnt be a problem i would just ask my friend to go ride her for me

  9. usually trade off with other friends on taking care when we can't.

  10. neighbors

  11. when we leave our horses for a while like on vacation or whatever, we usually buy 2 round bales of hay and have a family member come over and check on them to make sure all of them are still there and that they have water, but we dont have them fed while we are gone cause they have so much grass and hay they can eat, unless it is for more then a week

  12. well u have to know alot about horses u cant care for them if u dont know nuttin about them it is dangerous to be around them if u dont know stuff about them

  13. We never go anywhere so it's not a problem. =(  Should something come up and we have to be gone for more than overnight, we take them to our Daughter's house. She lives a little to far to come check on them every day.
