What do you do when your best friend is hurting and she wont let you help her. Her heart has been broken.?

A man has broken her heart and she is shutting me out from her sense of reason - she calls and all I hear is tears in her voice and can feel her pain coming thru the phone and it's tearing my heart apart because no matter what words I can say there isn't anything that can ease her pain. I am helpless to her and I am deeply sadden for her. Can anyone offer me some words of encouragement that I may pass to her in a little while when I call and check on her please - I would be so grateful.

Just empathize with her as the friend you are...Tell her feel her hurt as a friend who cares, that you'll be there for her whenever she needs you to listen.  You cannot take her pain from her dear, but you can lessen it...and she will realize this once she is past this difficult period - who was there for her, who did care...

Yes, it is part of our lives - to have our heart broken by a number of things really, not just men.  Coping is different for us all, but there is nothing, and I do sincerely mean, NOTHING, like the kindness and support of loving friends to see you through what often seems, a catastrophe at the time...Remind her at some point, that the real catastrophe would be - to be with some one who doesn't love you for a lifetime...

Goodluck dear...you sound like a wonderful friend any of us would be glad to have, and I too, am fortunate to have a few like you in my life...
