What do you do when your kid's voices drive you up the wall?

My wife's therapist said that there is a possibility that the tone and pitch might actually be one of those noises (like nails on a chalkboard) that drives us nuts.

I mean I want to cover my head when they talk, that is how bad it is.

hmmm your wife probably takes too many diet pills, caffiene, etc.  

over sensitivity to the sound of her own children is not a hearing problem.

When my daughter was between 4 and 6, her voice could get irritating to me, although I loved her dearly.  I would find her a quiet activity to do, like reading or crafting, or send her out to play with friends.  That gave me a short break.  I believe that it is a pitch thing, too.
