What do you do when your mom doesn't think she can put you through college?

I really want to go to UCF. The tuition for out of state residents living on campus is $19,426.80. My mom makes $29,000 a year gross. She is a single mother who receives no child support. I have a sister, but she is much older and already out of the house. Will they consider my Dad's income since he doesn't pay? With her income, is there a chance I will receive a good amount of financial aid?

  1. Have you try to get a scholarship because each provider has different rules. Maybe you can try to go to

    http://all-about-scholarship.com

    it's about scholarships information.

    Good luck

  2. Well you should be able to get a decent amount of financial aide, Im pretty sure that they won't consider your dads income too. If  I was you though I would just look for an instate school. What state do you live in? If its in GA then you could qualify for hope all you need is a 3.0 GPA to qualify and you don't have to pay anything as opposed to student loans.

  3. Talk to your teachers and guidance counselor as well.  They may have some ideas of scholarships you can get that are focused toward hard working students with economic challenges.

You could also look at going to community college and then transferring after a year.  Community college is usually much cheaper.

  4. Your mom is right.  On her income for that cost she can't pay the bill.  However, if you could qualify for financial assistance that might help.  And if you could qualify for in-state tuition that would help even more.  You can apply for financial aid at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Since you are living with you mom only her income (and yours) will be considered.  As for qualifying for in-state tuition, check with the admissions office at UCF.
