Question:

What do you do when your toddler falls to sleep too early?

I was aiming to put my daughter to bed between 7.30 and 8pm as usual but she's fallen to sleep on the sofa at 7pm. Now, if I wake her and say 'no, no, you can't go to sleep yet!' she'll probably get overtired and not go to bed at all til late! But if I leave her she might have a short nap then wake anyways, or else she will be up extra early in the morning!

Advice: What would you do? Or have you done in this situation?

  1. A good afternoon nap...maybe a 30 minute to hour nap...she is 2 and needs the rest

  2. Put her to sleep when she is tired.  start getting her ready at 7:00 and it will be a least 7:15 be the time she is all ready to go to sleep.  She needs to go to bed if she falls asleep on the couch, let her.  This way if bedtime is moved up 1/2 hour she is all ready with teeth brushed and good to go.

ADDED:  Do you wake her when she is napping or does she just wake up after about an hour?  If you wake her, let her sleep maybe an hour or half hour longer and see if she can stay up later at night.  good luck!!!

  3. It's only half an hour earlier... let her sleep.  She'll probably sleep like she normally does.

  4. 30 minutes isint that muchof a difference, I would just let her sleep she probably was tired and I think she will sleep the rest of the night and if she wakes up just lay down with her and hush her back to sleep.

  5. calm down  its only 30 min. u r a time freak

  6. thats the perfect time to sleep...u r lucky!just dont bother her..

  7. 'Any minute',..only ! LEARN, FROM A 'MOTHER'.

  8. usually when my son fell asleep early, he would stay asleep all night.  The doctor said it was because he was growing.  This went on for about two months. Low and behold he grew 4.5 inches in those two months.

  9. If your 2 year old still takes frequent naps, then 7:30-8 is a perfect bedtime. If she's not napping, then 7-7:30 is better. They need LOTS of sleep still.

If she needs sleep, let her sleep. I guess that means you just have to wake up a little earlier....get that coffee brewing.... ; )

I taught my kids to turn on the tv which was preset to cartoons and they do that every morning. I have an incredibly safe home, so I don't worry about anthing happening except maybe them fighting.

  10. It's 30 minutes, relax. If anything she will wake up 30 minutes earlier. Big woop! She's tired, let her sleep.

  11. if you want her to go to bed at a certain time have her take a very early nap around noon and she will go to bed later. worked for me.

  12. It's only thirty minutes early. She's probably tired, just let her sleep.

  13. Just let her sleep. Most of the time they sleep all night long. I used to hate when my daughter would fall asleep at 7 because I would dread waking up earlier the next morning. Only a few times did she actually wake up earlier. My daughter is almost two as well. Last night for example, she fell asleep at 7:30 and her bedtime is at 8 or 8:30. I knew she was very tired so I put her in her bed. About 8:30 she woke up and I read her a story and gave her a drink and she went right back to sleep. I would just let her sleep if I were you. It seems wrong to tell a two year old they can't go to sleep because its too early, ya know? And since its pretty close to her normal time then it should be okay. Now if it was 5 then I would wake her up, cuz that could cause problems.
