  1. We set up a designated washout area.  The main factor in deciding where to locate the wash out area is storm drain locations.  We are not permitted to allow any concrete into the storm drains.  The main fears are that it will settle and harden in  the storm sewer causing blockage or it will drain to the ocean or other water source and affect fish and plant life.  In my opinion if you want to do it right you have to dig a hole and line it with a water resistant membrane.  As trucks arrive they place their concrete an move to the wash out area.  Extra concrete slurry can be used for temporary roads and parking.  This is only possible if the mixture is thick enough.

Also we are required, if construction is occurring on a lot 1 acre or larger, to set up a slit fence along the perimeter of the property.  This again prevents any debris from the site from going into the storm drains.

In concrete plants the extra mix water is often reused in subsequent mixes.
