Question:

What do you do with those fast lane squatters?

It just "drives" me crazy when a car blocks a fast lane with 10 cars behind, and with a mile of empty lane ahead during traffic hour. Should you:

1. Honk it

2. Flash your high beams

3. Swirl by it and then slow down in front?

  1. 4. I would pass them on the right when convenient. I would not recommend doing 1-3. You could make the driver nervous and cause them to have an accident. It drives me nuts for other drivers to beep their horn over stupid stuff. All that does is distract the other driver and they will take even longer.

  2. 4. learn how to drive the speed limit!

  3. # 5. pass them and keep going

  4. Turn on my siren and give them a ticket for improper lane travel.

  5. I agree with #4.  Do the speed limit or just slightly above it (under 4mph over).  Patience is the key in these situations.  You don't know the situation of the other driver.  He/she may be preoccupied with something or they may see a situation that will trap them behind slower traffic ahead or an ending lane, since we are in construction season now.

Honking, high beams, & getting around them then slowing down are asking for trouble.  They are forms of road rage or can cause an accident.  If the driver hasn't gotten over after a couple of miles, you can dial 911 & explain the situation to the cops.  They can cite the driver for impeding traffic, if it is warranted.  Good luck!!

  6. Why not tailgate? Or back off, then advance at them really quick slowing at the last second, then repeat. Not saying I would do that, but I see it all the time happening to me.

(For the record, I pace the guy infront of me. Reason guys pass me on the right is because I keep double the normal spacing between me and the guy infront, which to most drivers seems like an invitation to get ahead of me...)
