  1. You can really eat w/e the heck you want before you train. Of course it is better to have a healthy diet and get the proper intake of vitamins/calories/etc but it doesn't really matter. I'd give yourself 3 hours to digest before working out but it depends on the person.

    For races there are 3 things you should eat/drink.

    Bagels. Plain bagels are the absolute best thing. It is straight calories with no sugar/fats/etc. Don't put butter or cream cheese on it.

    Water. Pretty obvious. Best to drink before and during you run.

    Gatorade. Obvious too but I find Gatorade is best to drink after you workout. It probably won't be crippling to drink during a workout but the sugar in it can cramp people.

    A note on Pasta. This is so over rated as something to eat. Unless you are eating A LOT of it and not putting cheese/butter on it it isn't going to help a ton.

    Don't eat it especially before a race. The butter (assuming you put butter on it) will kill you. The cheese as well. Eating/drinking any dairy products before a race/workout isn't a good idea in fact (but they are important so don't neglect them!!). The dairy curdles in your stomach and you will get bad cramps and probably throw up.


  2. this depends, if u r running a 5k(3.1 miles) or less eat a banana or a fruit but not alot of water make sure ur not full when u run a short race...or don't eat at all...its important to don't eat salty or fatty stuff is horrible for you

    if u run a 10k (6.2 miles) and up its important that u have some food in ur belly, if u r doing a Marathon make sure u eat fatty foods and alot of calories!!

  3. It takes your body about an hour to digest so i usually eat about one hour and 15 mintues or and hour and a half before i run to be safe. And the best things to eat before running are carbs like pasta, breads, and rice. Also bannanas or anything with potassium will also help. Dont eat things high in fats or sugars. Fatty or oily food will make you sick while sugar will give you a burst of energy and make you crash.

  4. i NEVERR eat after an hour and half before my run, or i get cramps and stomachache. if im racing that day, i eat a banana to help with cramps. besides that i just eat healthy.

  5. I eat cereal with milk and banana pretty much every time before I run, and I only need a half hour to digest. I think it just depends on what your body can handle, but I would stick with something light. If you are running for longer than 75 minutes its good to eat something small during the run, like crackers. Afterwards its smart to eat protein so your muscles can recoop. That may seem like a lot of eating, but your metabolism will be raised and its important to prevent injury.
