Question:

What do you feed a 3 year old who has diarrhea?

My friend has a 3 year old that has diarrhea. Almost anything she gives him makes it worse. She has been giving him applesauce and toast but he is pretty tired of that. What could she feed him that will help him get better and NOT give him diarrhea. And is there any kind of juice he could have that won't add to the diarrhea?

  1. Feed it some ant-diarrhea tablets.

  2. BRAT diet is what works best.

    Bananas....Rice....Applesauce...Toast!...

PS She should keep toddler on this diet for at least 24 hours!! And Pedialyte is the only one that wont make it worse!!

  3. Pedialyte is the best thing for a child with diarrhea.  It replaces their electrolytes without the added SUGAR that juice has which can actually aggrivate the diarrhea more.

Cheese, whole grains, Banana's can also help "firm" him up.

  4. YOU SHOULD ASK FIZZDUDE =D (check for his answer)

  5. um....i do not think bananas give diarrhea and also i think apple juice is good too...Hope i helped

  6. At this point do not worry about what he eats as ling as he can take in fluids! any fluids even if she has to feed him popsicles all day. I'm curious, how long has he had diarreah?

  7. Bananas Rice Applesauce and Toast

Otherwise, my pediatirician recommends Pedialyte popsicles. They are in either the baby isle or in the freezer at your grocery store. Don't give him adult drinks like Gatorade.

Other suggestions are:  clear liquids, chicken broth, apple juice

The juice from a can of peaches.

  8. urmm maybe, medicin<cant spell it:) .. to help it?

  9. I really dont want to be mean, but you should tell her to ask the 3 year olds doctor, because they know best. =)

  10. when my kids have diarrhea, I stick to Pedialyte. No milk, only pedialyte and water. As far as food, I stick to the brat diet. B.R.A.T. stands for Bannanas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Bannanas, Rice with little to no butter or anything else, Applesauce and lightly buttered to no buttered toast. With my kids, I usually feed them those items as much as they want during the day...I never wanted to take the chance of having their stomachs feeling good enough when it was meal times, so if I'm told they want it, they get it.

  11. Take him to the hospital.
