What do you feel about China becoming superpower number one?

I feel they have a long way to go. China's GDP is about half the US or the European Union.

Well good luck to them. I know they have human rights issues. But prosperity for the 1 billion people living there is far more important.

Hopefully it would take the burden off the US.

Its a nice jump for them...the Cultural Revolution and Great leap forward pretty much damaged their economy and made it go backwards.  During the last 30 years though things have gotten better...and they've improved quite a bit.  China is expected to overtake the US in strongest economy by 2035...but there are many problems they have to address.  And this is where my concerns comes in-

1. Their huge wage disparities.  yes the US has one too and I don't like it.  But China's wage disparities are also very big and they'll have to address this as the years pass.  Some workers from what I read, are only making $1/hour..and workers' rights are mixed.  I'm not calling for Communism nor BIG government intervention (as in taking control all of the market), but they're going to have to do something about it.

2. Their enviornment.  Both the US and China have the highest emissions of carbon.  Both countries- more on the state level for US and on some levels for China- have emissions problems..and China has very high levels of carbon...This is going to hurt them.  They'll have to address these issues.

Then there's the debates over human rights and all...I think some progress will be made there.  With negotiations between China and Tibetans...that's another issue though and I hope for a peaceful, diplomatic solution on that.  So I got different feelings of China's advancement.  I guess you can call it cautious optimistic thoughts.
